From the 6th horn part of Mahler’s 5th Symphony, as marked by an unknown New York Phil hornist.
It’s understandable though. The 3rd movement is tacet as well. That’s like a half hour of solid tacet.

What kind of horn is that? Single side, but four valves?

It was an incredible evening watching the massive Lake Superior waves crashing into the shoreline. Here a few of my favorites. These waves are well over 15 feet and let out a thunderous roar when they met the shoreline. Presque Isle park - Marquette, MI, 09/10/14

2007 Domaine Huet Vouvray Demi-Sec Le Haut-Lieu

What a nose! Gruyère cheese rind. Pear skin and lemon. Tarte tatin. White pepper. White stone. Lemongrass, leek, parsley. Apple and pear dessert on the palate. Mineral mid-palate and on the finish. Long, beautiful finish - fresh acidity really carries the wine and keeps it from being sticky. Beautiful!

Last night’s Prom in London was trumpet player Georg Hilser’s last concert with the orchestra after 38 years. In this photo taken backstage at the Royal Albert Hall, all the brass are smiling but Georg will be very missed both as a musician and a person. You couldn’t wish for a nicer colleague than Georg! Thanks, Georg, for all these years of great playing. You will be very much missed!

The Berlin Phil now has an 18 year-old second trumpet player, Florian Pichler. He started playing the trumpet in 2003.
